As a young child, Demi Lovato was bullied for her weight. She began cutting when she was only 11 years old. She explains: "It was a way of expressing my own shame of myself on my own body. And there were some times where my emotions were just so built up, I didn't know what to do. The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself. I don't think I was ever trying to kill myself, but I knew that if I had ever gone too far, that I wouldn't care."
Demi went to treatment in November 2010 for her cutting and eating disorder. She has successfully gained back her lost weight, and has been trying to keep in control.
Demi Lovato has struggled with cutting, a form of self-mutilation. When Demi Lovato was first suspected of cutting in 2008, her reps denied the issue and said the marks were from having worn tight bracelets. But in 2010 Demi owned up to her problems and went to rehab to deal with her cutting and other issues that she was facing.

When Demi Lovato was seven she had suicidal thoughts then at the age of eleven she started self harming (cutting her wrists). She started self harming because she was bullied for being fat. She didn't tell anyone she was cutting, not even close friends and family. She would always cover it with makeup and bracelets. In late 2010 a picture of her was released where she forgot to cover it so everyone found out. She re-assured her family that it was in the past and she's ok now. So, she started cutting in places that no one would see. She started dating teen heart throb Jo Jonas. On her tour with the Jonas Brother's, Demi ended the relationship with Jo. She was singing a song on the tour and had an empty stomach and her voice hurt. She got very annoyed and beat up one of her dancers. She ended the tour and went to rehab. In rehab she found out she was Bi-Polar. On her wrists she got tattoos to cover the scars. On one wrist it says "stay" and on the other it says "strong".
