Often times, yes, death metal vocals will use distortion and other effects. These are generally added afterwards, though, just to beef it up and give it a fuller sound. If you can't get the death metal sound on your own, no amount of distortion or effects will help.
I'm not 100% sure on this, but i know he uses mainly boss pedals...., and that on the "all hope is gone" album he uses Boss metal zone, and MD-2 mega distortion. He may use others, but I'm pretty sure he uses these two.I'm not 100% sure on this, but i know he uses mainly boss pedals...., and that on the "all hope is gone" album he uses Boss metal zone, and MD-2 mega distortion. Entombed, Grave, Carnage and Bloodbath all sound like Dismember. These bands are all Swedish death metal and all use a characteristic buzzsaw distortion tone. Other less similar bands are Sacramentum, Runemagic and Unleashed. Less similar still are In Flames and Dissection.
Breaking Benjamin does not use distortion pedal's for their distortion. They use amp distortion if you are looking to get a similar sound shoot for any of the following with a little tweaking you can get very close to their sound. Note you will need an amp with a good clean signal. Sansamp gt2 (Best sound) Barber Dirty Bomb (Decent) Metal Muff (Has more of a high end then the above pedals)
morely power
the effects they use is mostly "distortion" and "delay".

no. death metal consists of elaborate guitar sequences, fast pace drumming including double base, and screaming/ singing from the vocals
After Forever produce music with a heavy metal genre that can also be described as death metal. The band use a mixture of soprano vocals and manly screams and grunts.
A phase shifter (aka phaser) was used on the background vocals, to give them an "underwater" effect.
Metal uses a type of vocals called "screaming" (im not sure why a lot of people call it screamo, screamo is not metal) these vocals consist of different types and styles of screams. Low or high growls are often used in metal and death metal. In hardcore music they often use fry screams, which are more vocally based instead of diaphram bassed like growls. Try youtube for turtorials of how to us screaming vocals. I must add, this style of music is not satanic or devil worshiping in anyway. Some bands are satanic, but it's not as common.
ive been wondering this for a long time. the best answer ive been able to find is that it is either Jeff Beccera from Possessed or Kam Lee or Chuck Schuldiner from Death. - The first song to actually use some kind of death metal growl is actually "Boris The Spider", by The Who, recorded in 1966, and sung by bassist John Entwistle. (though more for comedic effect than anything)
Just the distortion from a Marshall JCM 900 amp (they don't use distortion pedals).
Use a Korg, Ibanez distortion pedal, or use a processor.
Her vocals were very good in the concert.

It all depend's on what type of metal you are planning to play. The most common it a Boss distortion pedal.I myself use a digitec RP 80,and a Fab Metal pedal. The fab has a high sustain.
None - it is just good layering in the intro of slaves shall serve; I can assure you being vocalist myself - good metal vocalists do not use any distorion except their natural vocal distortion neither does Nergal as he's one of them.
