I had to do this on my 96 850, and no, I did not have to have it running, just on accessories on ignition.

each time i want to play the car sterio of 1997 VOLVO S70 GLT It will ask of code. It will ask of a code.How do i put this code. the serial number is VO8170 V9179463B. You need to go to your Volvo dealership and they will do it for free. If you call them they will give you a code and tell you to keep your radio on for two hours than put that code in there but that does not work it is better to just go to the dealership they will do it for free and than they will give you the code in case it happens again.
The code to reset the radio is specific to your car. No one will know that code. If you cannot find the code written down somewhere, contact your Buick dealer for instructions on how to get the code. The radio may need to be removed to get the radio serial # and with that the code, or the selling dealer may have it on file.
its a 4 digit code to enable radio operation,best bet is to pull radio out and get serial number from sticker on top of radio and call Volvo dealer with radio model # sc-815 or sc-816 and serial number and they can run thru computer and get your code
The reset code is on the back of the radio,
I reset mine by removing the radio fuse and leaving it out for 3 hours before reinserting it. After reinserting the radio fuse, the radio will then accept your code unique to your radio.

Your car has a special 4 digit code It is able to be reset at a Volvo dealer. They will reflash the radio code and give you a copy. Mine was that way and now I don't have problem. For steps in putting the code in look in your owners manual
I reset my be removing the radio fuse from the fuse box to the left of the instrumentation panel, and then replacing it 3 hours later. It would then accept the code unique to my radio.
Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes get the radio code before doing this
You have to take it to a Volvo dealer. They can look up the code in their database. Each radio has a unique code based on the serial number of the radio.

The reset code is specific to the radio. Look in and on the glove compartment for the code and in the owners manual. If it is not there you need the serial number of the radio and have to call the dealer for the code.
