When playing fretted notes, place the tip of your finger between both frets. The higher of the 2 frets determines the pitch that the string creates.
Additional advice for experienced players: on the lower, wider frets, keep your fingertips pressed about 3/4s of the way up the fret instead of in the dead center. This produces the best tone and minimizes string buzzing.
Frets
all 4, stretch them out if you can from first to 4th frets, any time you see a 1 index, any time you see a 3 use your ring.. ect, determine which frets your fingers are on if you're playing tabs of something , so 2-5 , 2 index 5 is your pinky. Easy right?
Because it is not a guitar
If your finger is just lightly held over a guitar or bass string it is called a "muted note". In order to produce a sound on a guitar or bass you must either have you finger placed firmly on one of multiple frets. When no frets are held that is called an open note, or string.
i dont really know what its called but ill try to explain and do this for about 2 mins before playing guitar put four fingers anywere in a row on the guitar buy start from the E string and then move one finger up and then the next but the other fingers have to stay on the frets and then when reach the top go down. its kinda hard to explain so if you dont understand use scales
Frets
place your fingers on the frets on the chords and strum them.
Turning the peg or moving frets makes the pitch (frequency) of a guitar string go higher or lower.
They are the places where you put your fingers to make the string shorter, making the pitch higher.
Probably all answers are correct depending on when on the fret board your are playing, how long your fingers are, how comfortable you are with the stretch, and where do you want your fingers to be for the next phrase in the music.
Not all guitars have frets, however, it is probably best to learn using frets.

You must keep your fingers of your left hand on the same frets as the chord, after you strum across the strings. If you release your fingers from the frets, the string will stop vibrating very rapidly.

Frets are marked on the bass guitar the same way as they are on the electric guitar or acoustic guitar. Metal lines run across the neck. If you're talking about a fretless bass then you shouldn't have to ask this question. It would be a big mistake to try learn the fretless bass before the standard bass. The frets are in the same positions but you should instinctively know where your fingers should be before advancing to fretless

I think its just to make it simpler. If they had all the frets an atual guitar had i think people would lose interest. Guitar hero games and guitars are supposed to be fun to play if there were more frets i think people would lose interest because instead of playing they would be learning
