Does a short scale bass guitar sound differently than a long scaled one..or is it just the size that makes them different?

Yes, the short scale bass sounds different. It has a light, punchy sound, with less "bottom" than the long scaled one. It's a matter of tone. Play a low E on both Guitars and you will hear the difference instantly. I use a short-scale bass for playing live because it's light, fast, and fun to play. But for recording, you really want the long-scaled bass.

∙ 16y agoThe Fender Jazz bass is your standard 34 inch scale. This would be a long scale. Short scale bass are usually around a 30 inch.
