try checking the spark with a niod light first then go and check timing- possible bad timing set. You failed to menion what year Cherokeeyou have. If yours is carburated you may have an incorrect float setting or a sticking needle valve. no matter what year you have check the basics first. IE the fuel filter,fuel pressure regulaor (if applicable) also if you have replaced the fuel tank you may have got an after maret tank without a baffel to hold fuel near pump for adaquate delivery.
