How did God's creation during the second three days relate to his creation from the first three days?

Typically, the relationship between days 1-3 and days 4-6 is seen by religious people to be the beginning and completion of each major act of creation. On Day 1, God created light and correspondingly on Day 4, God created the heavenly bodies that create light. On Day 2, God created the air and ocean and correspondingly on Day 5, God created the animals that inhabit those regions. On Day 3, God created the land and the plants that cover it and correspondingly on Day 6, God created the animals and people who would populate that land.

There is no provable relationship, but it is possible that the ancients thought of the creations in the first three days as being the essentials, necessary before the creations of the second three days could be undertaken.

In the first three days, Genesis chapter 1 says that God created the light of day, the firmament that separates the waters above from the waters below, then grasses, plants and trees.

The second three days begin on day 4, when God created the sun, moon and stars, placing them in the firmament just above the earth. The firmament needed to be already in place for this to happen. Then God created fish, fowl and land animals. There needed to be grass, plants and trees for them to eat and live in, and these were created on day 3. Man was created last to have dominion over everything that came before.
