you can't do it yourself you have to get help from a pro
The radio antenna is a fine wire imbedded in the windshield. If your radio doesn't pull in any stations, but you get static then probably the cable came out of the back of the radio. If you recently got a new windshied it may have not had the antenna. You should be an antenna at an auto parts store and install it on the front fender.

The stock roof-mounted antenna on the 2005 Toyota Matrix will unscrew from the antenna base that is attached to the roof. If your original antenna has been stolen, you should be able to obtain a replacement antenna and just screw it on the the antenna base that is still attached to the roof of your Matrix.
if it is like a '95.....remove the left front wheel.....remove the plastic fender well.....it is attached to a bracket right there above the well....I replaced my power antenna with a short rubber whip antenna.......
95 % of the time the nylon cord that moves the antenna up and down gets stripped. The power antenna motor is going to cost about $200.00. The antenna mast is about $40.00 which comes as part of the nylon cord. The motor that drives the antenna must bestill working. The procedure to fix takes about 15 minutes. Remove the nut that secures the antenna and slowly pull the antenna out od the socket. Take the new antenna with the nylon leadand feed it into the socket hole. You can then secure the antenna in place with the holding nut.
