Not positive on the 2002 Zx5, but on my 2003 Zx3 and most Ford models, you need to get a special tool to remove the stereo. It's two pieces of wire shaped like small horseshoes with special notches on the ends. All you do is insert these into the four holes on the edge of the face of the radio, bend them outward, and pull it out. Just don't stick them in too far or they'll be in there forever.
You can pick up this tool at most automotive places. I got mine at a Napa store for a couple bucks.
Focus owners have had multiple problems with their multi-disc CD changers. For me, replacing it with the same model (Audiophile) just led to the same problems. However, when I changed to a new brand, my sub-woofer wouldn't work as only the factory radio is compatible with that factory speaker. You'll have to drop a couple hundred bucks extra to get a sub-woofer that works with your new stereo.
Best of luck!
the black strip that goes from the top of the glove box across the lcd screen needs to be popped off and the screws are under there
Begin by removing the decorative cover from your 2001 Pontiac Bonneville radio. Remove the radio retaining screws. Slide the radio out and remove the wiring harness and the antenna cable.
He means how do you remove it ...Wish I knew ???
If you are referring to the factory supplied radio, it is not a 'component' type radio. It must be removed from the dash and dis-assembled.
the radio is below the center of the windshield, right below the air vents... If you mean how do you REMOVE the radio then that's another question altogether. PULL out center air vents, REMOVE ashtray, there are 2 bolts there and 2 where you removed the air vent. Remove those and your there.

The fuse for the radio on a 2001 Ford Focus is located in the main fuse panel. It can be found under the dash, near the hood release.
You are going to need a Ford radio tool. If you look at the front of your radio you will see two small holes on each side about an inch apart. There is a tool that slips into those holes and locks in. Then you apply outward pressure to both at once and the radio slips right out. You might check with your local auto parts store and see if they have one you can borrow.
According to my brother (who is a mechanic), The stock stereo in the protege requires radio removal tools (2 sets) to remove -- you can get them at just about any parts store. Just carefully remove the molding around the radio, insert the tools all the way and then pull them outward to release the clips. The radio should just slide out.
It is important to know all of the parts and electrical components of a car. The 2001 Ford Focus does have an internal fuse.?æ
