First there were types of pianos e.g Harpsicords, square pianos that had no pedals, therefore composers like Mozart wrote the alberti bass line that is a series of notes e.g c,e,g instead of playing c,e,g in a chord. then the piano evolved and was gifted with pedals, the pedals sustain and dampen the piano to create a larger palette of sound quality and colour. the piano keys in early years worked a mechanism which plucked the strings which limited dynamics. Nowadays the pianos consist of hammers which strike the string.Modern pianos contain a iron frame on which metal strings are stretched with great force. the soundboard behind the strings resonates and produces the unmistakable sound. there are on modern pianos different number of strings

low notes = one string, medium notes = two strings, treble strings = three strings, there are 3 strings on the high notes because the more the strings the louder the note. The soundboard is normally made from pine or spruce.
