Im sorry but whoever said that is definitely wrong, I believe there are 2686 in the US, typical ignorant American probably doesn't realise the YMCA extends far beyond the US, it was founded in England so it isn't even an American company.
The Y affiliates itself with international alliances, so there are 33 national YMCA's ranging from India to the US to Argentina and Australia.
I know that the US has 2686 and Australia has over 500, not sure how you'd go about finding out the exact worldwide amount
