The Beatles were rebels in their fashion sense, namely their hair styles. In America during the 1960's, young men wore their hair short. Anything long was considered rebellious. The longer style was popular across Europe, especially in Germany, which is where the Beatles received their hair style. Long time friend Astrid Kirchnerr, ex-Beatle Stu Sutcliffe's girlfriend, gave John, Paul, and George the haircut during one of their stays in Germany.
