It sometimes is used in orchestra, but is not as common as other woodwind instruments since it is a newer instrument. Much of the orchestra music that was written before the Saxophone was invented. Therefore much Classical Music was not written with the saxophone in mind.
Some arrangements have added in saxophones, but they are not as common.
The woodwind family includes Clarinets, Oboes, Bassoons, Saxophones and several other instruments.

The sax has a rich, lively and very flexible sound in the hands of a master. You will find it in many settings as mentioned above, but you do not often find the sax in the older styles of orchestral music, even including some from the 20th century.
The strongest sax voice is probably in jazz and more modern musical idioms.

saxophone is easier to play EDIT: not necessarily. as a saxophonist of 11 years and a guitarist of 7, i can safely say that neither instrument is harder. saxophone requires wind capacity, especially a tenor, whereas a guitar needs more finger strength. Find one that best suits you, which you are more inclined to play more often. (if that didn't make sense- pick the one you feel you'll enjoy more)
