the dash panel trim pops off using a gentle pull with your hands... first you want to turn the key to the on position and drop the shifter as low as you can go and drop the steering wheel low as well... pop the dash panel trim off by pulling all around with your hands. after you have it off, the radio has 2 clips on the side just pop the clips and pull the radio out.. unplug the 2 connections on the back of the radio and walah! there's your radio!
Radio AAHS ended in 1998.
you need the special wire tools...they sort of look like big v-shaped paper clips. You need 2, one on each side of the radio. You may have noticed 2 little holes on each side of the radio's front. The radio removal tool is inserted in the holes, and it attaches to little clips inside. You then pull the radio out. I believe that when you remove the radio, the security system scrambles the radio's code, and it must be re-programed in order for the radio to work. I think your local MB dealer can help you with that...or a local radio shop familiar with MB radios.
That seems to be quite a common problem on the 1998 models , from what I have read it is caused by bad soldered connections inside the radio.
The factory radio does not have an aux Jack.

It's programmed into the engine ECU. It's not an object which can be physically removed.
Very. Requires removal of the dash for access.
