In 1959 Della Reese did a song called "Don't You Know". It was adapted from Puccini's "La Boehme" (an Opera) and became Della's biggest hit.

Is there a popular song from la boheme which lyrics start don't you know i am falling in love with you.?

Yes. I've just finished watching Rent, where the melody of Puccini, Musetta's Waltz from La Boheme plays softly beneath the music of one of the final scenes. The song "Don't You Know?" was recorded by Della Reese in 1959. See Sources and Related Links to heart a recording on YouTube. That is the version I remember hearing as a child.
