∙ 7y agoYes, but they were very small because the sounds did not carry well (no amplification). Concert halls were specifically designed that used echos from the ceiling and walls to distribute the sound through the room. Travel was difficult back then, so the musicians performing in these concerts rarely performed in any other venue.

Rising middle-class wages allowed for a wider range of audience in virtuoso performances and public orchestras.
