Classical Music has very different instrumentation generally, and uses a conductor for some pieces. Also, many times the soloist or star or someone else in the concert does not write the music. Many times, classical music pieces are much longer than popular songs. Classical music generally does not use a microphone, and many popular bands do.

Classical music wasn't as you know it today. Today we have multiple genres spanning the entire music scene of the world. Several centuries ago Classical music was simply music. In terms of instrumental classical music, that took off at the demise of the Baroque Period and beginning of the Classical period. Rising middle-class wages allowed for a wider range of audience in virtuoso performances and public orchestras. Music was a sign of prestige and therefore those who could not perform at least attended. It was one of the primary sources of entertainment besides plays. Popularity for classical music has dwindled since the 19th century. And there is little hope it will be revived through the few neo-classical artists remaining.

Classifying music as classical, folk, or popular can be problematic due to the fluid nature of musical genres and the overlap between them. For example, elements of classical music can be found in popular genres, and folk music often incorporates contemporary influences. Additionally, cultural context plays a significant role in defining these categories, making it difficult to apply a one-size-fits-all classification. This can lead to misinterpretation and underappreciation of diverse musical forms.

The key differences between a concerto and a sonata in classical music are the number of performers and the interaction between soloist and orchestra. A concerto features a soloist accompanied by an orchestra, with a focus on showcasing the soloist's skills. In contrast, a sonata typically involves a solo instrument or small group of instruments without an orchestra, and emphasizes the interplay between the instruments.
Of course, classical music is the most popular than modern music and will always have a place in any century.
