Having worked as a Music Supervisor with ad agencies for over 30 years, I would say most often it is down to budget/not having any money. Classical Music is in Public Domain(PD) which means no Publishers fees and many library catalogues have recordings of classical music = synchronization fees at the lowest fixed rates. It is important however to check if the track is in PD or the version that you look is not a new arrangement it can turn out to be an expensive error.

Do you mean the difference between classical music and film music?Classical music was composed in the period from 1550 to 1900 (more or less).Film music came into existence in the late 1800's/early 1900's.Film music often borrows elements from classical music, but from other music forms as well (for example jazz, and rock). Both music forms have also much in common. When you put on a dvd, turn off the sound from the tv, and put on a classical piece of music at the same time, the classical music can often compliment the movie you're watching!
Various Chrysler commercials use a number of different music scores.Probably you are thinking of the classical orchestral and piano melody which is featured in the 'Chrysler tv ad' link in Related links below. This particular piece of music is called Mother and Child, and was composed by 'Binary', a music composing company/collective who write music for commercials and films. (See links below)Mother and Child is very similar to the underlying theme music of the film Amelie. The soundtrack to this film was composed by Yann Tiersen, and the name of this particulary evocative piece of music which weaves through the entire film is "Comptine d'un autre été: L'après-midi."An excellent piano solo of this haunting classical-style slow waltz by Yann Tiersen can also be heard by clicking the link (Ref AMELIE) below. For more information, see also other Related linksbelow.
