auto braking system
they don't stop , they sort of vibrate so you don't skid.
ABS was optional. Look for ABS wires that run alongside the normal brake lines, or look for the ABS pump assembly next to the brake master cylinder.
If I'm reading the question right, the brakes release when it cant grip the road to avoid a spin out. This would be caused by the ABS. If it is not from the ABS, something could be having trouble, so it would be best to check it.
I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have the same problem. The ABS light came on, the brakes (all four) were replaced. The light would not go off. I just took it to the dealership and they determined that the controller had gone bad and that the part was discontinued by the manufacture a long time ago. They basically in so many words told me to disconnect the light, because otherwise it will never pass inspection. They stressed to me that they could not do this, that they were not allowed to do that. I need to find out how to disconnect the ABS light. Jeep Abs control modules can be refurbished for much less than buying a new one ( around $100 ). One company that will do this is BBA-re manufacturing inc. They have an excellent web site and can also be found on E-bay. Please have the code checked, if it is a sensor or module code the base brakes will function ok. If it a pressure code then the base brakes could have a problem.
The easiest way to turn the light off is to remove the lamp. However, the ABS unit will still not work and the vehicle could slide if the brakes are applied hard.
Hi im Mike from Mn, I also have a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee with front brakes that are partially engaged so that they heat up. I got them to release after pulling the fuse and relay for the ABS IN THE FUSE BOX under the hood. The brakes work ok now and have not stuck back on but the ABS system is no longer working. I went to the Jeep dealer and they said they had never heard of this problem before. They said if I can make it happen again they may be able to figure it out. Any info you have about this problem would be greatly appreciated Mike

You would adjust the brakes on a vehicle with abs brakes the same way you would adjust the brakes on a vehicle without abs brakes.
The ECU for the ABS brakes is attached to the Master cylinder for the brakes.

You replace the brakes on an ABS S10 the same way you replace brakes on a non ABS S10.
No, a Mazda 626 does not have fuses for ABS brakes. In fact, many Mazda models do not have fuses for ABS brakes.
ABS brakes are not spongy. If you have spongy brakes the reason is that there is air in the system. You need to have your brakes bled.
Slam on your brakes. If your brakes lock up, then you do not have ABS. If your brakes do not lock up and you hear a knocking type of noise from your brakes, then you have ABS.
Operating abs brakes are easy. The anit-breaks are there for hen your other brakes go out.
Having ABS does not change how you bleed the brakes. Bleed them as you would if it did not have ABS.
