All started in 1974, Hill and Crawford were inmates at Massachusetts Correctional Institution. After being involved in a fight with another person, they were charged with assault and violation of prison rules. At the hearings, Sergeant Maguire started he witnessed the fight but Hill and Crawford declared their innocence and the victim gave statement saying they didn't cause his injuries. The prison disciplinary board found Hill and Crawford guilty of the violating prison rules and took away 100 days of good-time credit and 15days' solitary confinement.
