You can try disconnecting the battery negative cable for 5 minutes. If that does not work then you will have to use a scan tool to reset the light. Know that if you do not repair the problem that caused the light to come on, it will just come right back on.

∙ 16y agoFirst have the car connected to a code scanner, most parts stores will do it for free. When the check engine light illuminates it is letting you know there is a problem, the problem will need to be repaired before the light will go out permanently. The same code scanner can then clear the codes and shut off the light. Many people will say disconnect the battery for a minute or so but if your problem still exists the light will come back on.
