I am 5' 7", and that is the size I played most.Solo basses are often made from 1/2-size basses.The principle bassist of the Boston Symphony, Edwin Barker, stood about 5' 11" and was one of the few people I ever knew who played a real 4/4 size bass. I believe he mostly plays 3/4-sized instruments now.
