In a Royal or noble household the female members of the household would have Ladies in Waiting as assistants to help them to dress, handle their diary and deal with correspondence. They were usually from a noble household themselves and were treated much better than the other, common servants of the household. The "waiting" part of their title has the same derivation as a "waiter" in a restaurant - they would wait to see what their mistress required them to do, just as a waiter "waits" for a customer to order what they want to eat. If you write a letter to royal or noble lady, you will probably receive a reply from one of her Ladies in Waiting.

That's an interesting question! I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's fair to say that people everywhere like to keep others waiting. I think this kind of behavior could also be tied in with how confident people feel about their own values. Sometimes people like to use keeping others waiting as a way to show that they are more important. If I had to choose, I'd say America. It seems like we're constantly focused on how we appear to other people rather than who we really are.
There are three possibilities actually: a) I am sorry to keep you waiting b) I am sorry to have kept you waiting c) I am sorry for keeping you waiting It depends on the time. If the act of waiting has not been done, the choice (a) is suitable. If the act of waiting has been completed, the choice (b) is appropriate. Choice (c) is applicable for both situations. It is safer to use choice (c) if you are confused.
Tom and Joe Harper entertain themselves by trading small toys and playing games like marbles, tic-tac-toe, and "I Spy". They also tell stories to each other and play make-believe scenarios, keeping themselves occupied and passing the time until noon recess.
They were tired of waiting for people to create the type of music they wanted to hear, and decided to try it themselves.

I struggle a bit with Beckett's idea that life is meaningless because most spend it waiting for something or the other. Personally, I think that goals or whatever one waits for provides the motivation to keep moving through life. Think about it, Estragon and Vladimir's alternative to waiting for Godot is killing themselves, but they do not, because they still have some hope.
they governed themselves by telling each other what to do. Like telling each other were to put the food or when to go pick it up okay so if you have aby more doubts joust mssg me at pie. I'll be waiting...
The job of a lady in waiting was to assist and attend to women of the noble classes such as a Queen, Princess or Duchess. They tended to be noble women themselves, but of lesser rank. Thanks! I really need this for my school medieval festival. After words I have to write an essay.
