It symbolizes the "death" of Paul McCartney. Many people believe that this is a hint that he was actually dead. John was wearing all white, as to be a member of the church at a ceremony for a funeral. Ringo was wearing all black, as to be someone attending his wake. Paul wearing a suit and no shoes symbolizing a dead body. George wearing all denim symbolizing a undertaker or grounds keeper at a cemetery. The license plate on the Volkswagen behind George says "28IF" stating that Paul would have been 28 if he was still alive. Hope this helped:)

if you're referring to "paul is dead" that was nothing. somethings journalist made up to get their magazines to sell. other hints like rev. 9 played backward was john messing with people. and at the end of strawberry fields, he did NOT say " i buried paul" what he really said was "cranberry sauce"

Why isn't Paul McCartney wearing shoes on the cover of Abbey Road?

Paul has stated before that it was a hot day and he just took them off and there was no reason behind it other than that. Many people thought that the cover of Abbey Road was a clue to the 'Paul is Dead' urban legend. Him having no shoes on and being out of step with the rest of the band was supposed to mean he was the dead one.
