It is Tex-Mex soul music. Dr. Manuel Peña, revered conjuntologist, calls it working class music of South Texas, it is the fusion of the German and the Tejano cultures in Texas and Northern Mexico. Although in Mexico it is called "Norteño". Conjunto simply means "together" so a group of musicians get together, traditionally four, one on button Accordion, one on bajo sexto, one on bass, and one on drums. It has evolved since the 30's and 40's when recordings were first made my artists such as Narciso Martinez in the Valley and Santiago Jimenez Sr. in San Antonio.

Tejano Music is influenced by basically all type of genre's from Conjunto and Orquestra to Country, Rap, Hip-Hop, and more. It just depends on which group at what time. Tejano Music is more of a style then a set genre, you would literally have to break it up in to sub-genre's like Tejano Conjunto, Tejano Pop, etc...
