Depends on a lot of stuff , whatever you can find off of websites use to your advantage. Some things to consider and my advice if you live in a big city or have someone in the family with a PayPal account to sell the guitar online / locally.

Condition . the newer it looks the better. A cloth with windex on it to get rid of any dirt and some car wax will make it look like new. Since it's one or two wipes when you're ready to sell or take pictures it won't matter much. Usually I tell people to use one without silicone in it to prevent scratches but this is thinking very long term.

First thing I'd do is Google the guitar and see if any results pop up, a good idea of "bought for" value if it was a gift , second is to see what it's made out of this makes or breaks a guitar if it has good parts it'll sound good most will say but a true musician will look at the woods.

Some colors are easier to sell than others. Seems everyone wants a black guitar. Not a big concern.

does it come with a case? if you're selling locally it must otherwise people won't give it the time of day.

does it have all the strings on it?

if it's alder you'll have no problem , where as plywood , agathis ..ect you may.

If it's missing any parts it hurts the value. Luckily shops will have those parts but I suggest ebay to make you the most amount of money.

If it's unique in any way use it to your advantage , like say a H/S stratocaster or something you don't see every day.

The BEST idea for re-sale value in all honest if you got say an alder body especially. People charge 60$ + shipping for an alder body. Another 50$ or so for a neck plus shipping. It's tedious listing many ads but it beats say just getting 50$ off someone who doesn't deserve it.
