I have the same exact problem. You think it's a canker sore but it's not a bump filled with white pus. It's a tiny hole in your gum and it stings if you touch it with your toungue or if you eat something acidic. I have once in a very long while, probably no more than once every 4-5 months. I've been tryinnng to find out what it is but the only thing closest to it is canker sore.

AnswerAlso it's usually gone by a week or less than that.

Have a look at this question on Yahoo! Answers where there's a picture provided. Is that what your hole looks like? (pin-sized with a white/yellowish diameter?) If so, then it's probably a mouth ulcer. Quite common and usually goes away on its own.

What is a blood clot on gums caused by?

Although I am not a doctor, I always thought that blood clots coming out of gums result from congested blood in the gums. I think if gums are massaged then blood will be circulated and extra congested blood will go away. Sees this should be a frequent task and not a one-time every once and while.
