That would definitely have to be Spinal Tap.
The show is part real, and part fake. Basically, the show is a mock documentary (mockumentary), based on Nat and Alex's real-life. But, it's exaggerated a bit. Example, Nat and Alex's dad isn't really dorky and plays the accordion, but he is their dad in real-life; they pretend to be world-famous, like "The Beatles" and although they became big overtime they aren't as big as "The Beatles"; and Nat and Alex's mom isn't really dead. She's actress Polly Draper, probally best-known for her role on the late '80's and early '90's hit drama, "thirtysomething." Polly Draper is the director, writer, creator, and executive producer of the show.
The Rutles were a fictional band created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes (of Monty Python fame). The Rutles were a style parody of the Beatles and became well known in the 1978 mockumentary television film, All You Need is Cash. The Rutles were: · Ron Nasty (styled after John Lennon) - played by Neil Innes; · Dirk McQuickly (styled after Paul McCartney) - played by Eric Idle · Stig O'Hara (styled after George Harrison) - played by Ricky Fataar · Barry Wom - (styled after Ringo Starr) - played by John Halsey The Rutles were the original tribute band. They were in the style of the Beatles but did not cover their work. They had a close association with Monty Python. 'How sweet to be an idiot' is pure Lennon !
Anything is possible if you have the money for it. If you call or email a particular company you like that makes double-neck guitars, just ask them for an estimate on a twelve-string/bass double neck. Note that if you do this, you're going to want to use a bass amplifier, as playing an electric bass through a guitar amp will blow out your speakers. (Guitar amps are not meant to handle the low register of a bass.) In the mockumentary movie "Spinal Tap," you can see a double-necked bass when they're playing "Tonight I'm going to rock you tonight" You can also research the Chapman Stick, an instrument that uses both guitar and bass strings. It's probably not what you're looking for, but an interesting instrument nonetheless.
