The name of the band was Candy and Kisses.

It was a (relatively) regional hit in the summer of 1964. The "Eighty-One" was a dance, much like 'The Twist" and "the watusi" all that garnered a fan base, and then a hit record.

Back in the late 50's - early '60s, learning and doing 'the latest dance' was all the rage and a popular pastime with kids all over America. (hence, you'll hear a lot of lyrics of this era talking about 'the latest' ... ie: "it's the latest... it's the greatest... mashed-potato! yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah!" (another song / dance of the times).
