Broadly speaking, it's about finding that place where you belong--whether with friends, family, or even in a literal place.
The lyrics acknowledge that there is no going back, no changing the past or stopping time. Yet the song is hopeful, because, as lyricist and vocalist Jon Foreman wrote, "We are miracles/and we're not alone."
More specifically, it is about a Christian's longing for Heaven. As humans, we are indeed created for a place we've never known.
It was used in the movie Prince Caspian, but also released one the band's The Best Yet album. Several variations of the song were recorded prior to the movie's release, including one entitled "Every Breath is Magic."
This is one of their coolest songs in that it can be interpreted in many different ways. Some say its about taking hold of your life and making it what you want it to be. Yesterday is gone so we have to make the best of what today is and for the future.
