I have a 99 JGCL and my problem was a small wire that connects near the front brakes. It was about 2 feet long if I remember correctly and was the abs sensor or something. It cost about forty dollars. If you go to Advanced Auto Parts they might diagnose it for you for free, and tell you if that is really your problem. Good Luck
Go to an AutoZone. They have the little plug in boxthat checks your computer. Usually it's from stuff like piston mis-fires. They might be able to look at it and reset it. It might not go away imediatly, but it worked on mine.

It might be a loose gas cap. It happens to me every once in a while. If the attendant at the gas station doesn't put your cap on tightly, your check engine light will come on shortly afterwards. Also, when you pull into a gas station, shut your engine off before the attendant loosens your gas cap. This can also cause the check engine light to come on.

None, it might cause oil to spill on your engine or inside of your hood, or a dash light might come on.
Quick answer: Gas cap or 02 sensor Or, it could be anything. When mine came on (04 Liberty Sport) I bought a scan tool at Sears. Turns out it was an O2 sensor.
