Ok. I will try this. my response is from experience as a blues/rock guiter player. Stay away from more technicle sounding amps like peavy, or say Yamaha. Something more like an old tube amp. Marshall, maybe. You could even probably get a good sound out of a Fender twin reverb, settup right. I know I had one of those old, portable Pignose brand, and it had a real "country" sound with a Strat, even. Ok, now preference comes in on strings. Lighter strings, say 9, through 42, are what I use for blues. Same as Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin. Earnie Ball, Super Slinky, the pink pack. A thicker string will give a deeper, less whiney sound, and better resonation. Syevie Ray Vaughn used a low "E" in a 54, or 56 diameter. Are you going more for a "bluesy" fast country, or slower deeper, more resignant country? Slide, no slide? And oh yeah. Are singing lead, or backup if even at all? I gave you something to start with. The rest is experience, and preferance, my brother. I use at least 3 6 strings, myself. 430, 440, and 450 tuning. Remember. Ability is only half of what makes a guiter player. The rest is emotion, experience, and uniqueness. My rythum player can pick up my ax, and it will not sound even close to what it sounds like for me. DO NOT limit yourself. Take Malcom Young. Angus''s brother. (ACDC). He goes out with two, of the three pickup missing, wires hanging out everywhere, no control knobs, ect. His position, depends on his timing more than his tone, or sound. I think he is trying to make a point. Don't overcomplicate it. Enjoy it. And that it takes minimal effort to be successful. Its not about the ax, but the music......Chuck.

Just buy the Fender instead of the Squier. From the description, you're probably looking at a Fender '72 Telecaster Deluxe, with two "wide range" humbuckers and four control knobs. You can modify a Squier, but the cost of the modifications and the parts will probably exceed the cost of the guitar. And there is never any guarantee that the resulting sound will be good until you've already paid for and completed the modification. Also, a Squier depreciates in value pretty much the second you take it out of the store. A Fender, even a Mexican one, will hold its value better. When in doubt, just buy the guitar that already has the sound and feel you want.

I've had this amp for around 15 years now. Mine is an American made model. I had to take it to an amp tech a couple of years ago to change a couple of caps and re-bias. I recently replaced the speaker with a celestion vintage 30 and replace the power tube with el-84 (groove tube substi-tubes). I think it sounds better than ever now. I believe you can achieve a good blues sound (SRV style) by using the clean channel and with an Ibanez tube screamer in front,with its gain 3/4 of the way up, (I also use a cry-baby wah as needed). I set the amp as follows. Vol 4-5, treble 7, bass 12, mid 12, reverb 2.5, and presence 5. with my Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster on the front pickup although any pickup combo sounds good.
