That song (the title is "Drift Away") has been covered so, so many times, that it's impossible to say for sure which version you are referencing. According to the Wikipedia entry, the Dobie Gray version is the most popular, but it has also been covered by Bon Jovi, Bob Seger, ray Charles, Waylon Jennings, Roy Orbison, Humble Pie, and many, many others.
