Asked once in a late-Sixties interview if he thought Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the world, Lennon flippantly answered "He's not even the best drummer in The Beatles!"

All the same, Lennon always counted on Starr's drumming to enhance the music they made together, and encouraged later drummers he worked with (including Andy Newmark) to "play it more like Ringo".
