∙ 11y agoIt's a bit hard to say this exactly since lots of music was lost over the centuries without the existence of musical notation. However, in the Western world, the earliest significant period of music is the Middle Ages (450-1450). Very vaguely, using that as the first music, the answer to your question would be vocal music. More specifically, it was monophonic music, i.e. music with only one line. Think Gregorian chant. Instruments were used as well, but mainly to support vocal lines. Instruments in themselves did not gain importance in Western music till the Renaissance (1450-1600).

Trash was NOT the first kind of metal. The first kind was heavy metal. Trash bands like Metallica was influenced by new wave of british heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden but also punk rock. Trash bands wanted to be the opposite of the glam bands that was becoming big in the LA area during that time. Angry fast and dirty.

Thrash turned into into Heavy Metal by the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal in the eightys
