I too have a 2000 Lincoln LS V8. It also did the same thing, but not consistantly, although it did it more often whenI finally took it in. It was the Fuel Pump and the Fuel Filter. It cost over 900.00 to fix, not pretty.... My 1985 Mercury Cougar V6 had similar problems some years ago. The problem was a cracked ignition pick-up module.
