Dirnt (Michael Ryan Pritchard) and Billie Joe Armstrong were the co-founders of the group in 1986.
The Members of 'Green Day' are LEAD VOCCALS,GUITARIST: Billie Joe Armstrong. VOCCALS, BASSIST: Mike Dirnt (Micheal Ryan Pritchard). Drummer: Tre Cool ( Frank Edwin Wright III). Trumpet,Trombone, piano, etc. Jason Freese Guitarist: Jason White Ronnie Blake, (can't remember what he plays) :o
DUH!!!... Most of the music is written by Billie Joe Armstrong (sex god) and a few songs were written by mike dirnt and tré cool (equally as awesome). They have done a couple covers and like to play covers of songs at their concerts but their music is legendary and i don't think anything can beat it. PS. Green Day is two separate words!
While none of the members are known to be strong followers of any religion, there has been at least a hint of evidence for each one of their religious beliefs. Billie Joe Armstrong, for example, has been quoted in an interview on the Colbert Report as saying, "I love Jesus", which would obviously mean he is not a follower of the Jewish faith. Mike Dirnt is possibly an atheist, taking religion as a joke by saying, "I draw most of my religious beliefs from Star Wars." This clearly was not a serious statement, however, so I wouldn't assume anything. Speaking of statements that aren't serious, Tre Cool. Like the others, I would take a quote from an interview, but as any Green Day fan knows, Tre can say some pretty stupid things from time to time, and as with Mike, I wouldn't make any assumptions based on anything he says. Sorry the evidence is so limited, but this is all I could come up with.

Algae is a plant and green is the colour of chloroplasts that make up part of the plant.

Plants become so attractive due to their green leaves, colorful flowers, etc.
Many times, singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong comes up with songs while taking walks. He incorporates what is going on in his life and mind into the songs. For instance, he wrote "Brainstew" when he was trying to get his son to go to sleep. "Welcome to Paradise" was written after he and fellow band mate, bassist Mike Dirnt, left their homes at a young age. "21st Century Breakdown" is essentially a story of his life, beginning with his childhood and ending with where Green Day are today and what they have been through. Other times like with the song "Homecoming", Mike came up with the part "Nobody Likes You" when Billie Joe and drummer Tre Cool had other personal business to attend to and Mike was left alone in the recording studio. Also the part "Rock 'n' Roll Girlfriend" in "Homecoming" was written by Tre. After listening to all the parts they had, they bundled them together to create the 9-minute long song.
