Electrical problems can cause very strange things to happen and this sounds like one of those situations. It's likely that the problems are related and my best guess would be an ingnition switch or relay that's shorting out or going to ground.
Unless you're an electrical wiz I would recommend a trip to the dealer for a diagnosis and estimate of repair costs. The dealer will plug your Jeep into their error code reader which should have some information for them on this fault...some careful questions of the maintenance shop guy may point you in the correct direction to doing this repair yourself. Sorry that I'm not more help than this but electrical problems are almost always something that I take the vehicle to the dealer for.
Check the oxygen sensor. My 1995 Grand Cherokee stopped stalling while driving after it was replaced.
trash in your fuel filter
I had that same exact problem with a 1995 Jeep Cherokee, and it was indeed a bad oxygen sensor. Relatively cheap repair too.
I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 4.0 litre six cylinder and 4x4 transmission. It has died on me several times while driving but was only a fuse on the passenger side under the hood. It was located in the section that says TRANS. When I replaced the fuse it started right up.
Yes
could be a bad instrument cluster panel, they had a recall on the instrument cluster panel. I had my speedometer stop working and was given a price to fix it and blew it off. Then the recall came and I got a new instrument cluster and that fixed the problem which they knew they had.
Interior lighting allows people to see their instrument cluster and vehicle controls. If excessively bright, it'll actually impair driving visibility due to the glare.
still havent figured out the chugging but the instrument panel issue can be fixed by reheating all of the solder points on the back of the cluster again.
Sounds like a combination of: [1] A short circuit in the driving light circuit, combined with a [2] Auto resetting circuit breaker[instead of a fuse].
Sounds like the light bullb\bulbs for you gauger cluster is out. You will have to remove the cluster to get to the back of this to change the lights.
If your Jeep grand Cherokee Snatches when you are driving, kindly take it to a professional mechanic to check it out for you.
Our Vehicles have HORRIBLE Instrument Cluster Assemblies in them. Get it checked.
Seek to move ahead or fall behind the cluster to build a space.
None of the guages in the cluster are actually tied to the devices they read out for. They are read outs of what the ECU determines to be going on. The problem can only be 4 things. A bad wire/connection, which I doubt, a bad sensor, a bad ECU, or a bad instrument cluster. The instrument cluster isn't made to be disasembled, so don't try. Only a dealer or a competent mechananic with good electrical skills would be able to diagnose this problem.
