Why are glass violins sweeter then a normal violin?
I heard a concert played on a crystal violin last Christmas so this is my impression. It has a clear sound but there is less timbre than a wood instrument. It is very beautiful but the tones are not as warm as the traditional violin. I think of it as a new instrument based on an old one. It was the first instrument that I have heard in concert that the audience collectively gasped when the first note was drawn. It has a startlingly different and beautiful sound. There were CD's of this instrument for sale in Willamsburg, Va where I heard it.

But the one violin that's played is the violin of the 'first desk man', who also may be called 'concert master'. The two terms apply whether the individual be female or male.
