Why are glass violins sweeter then a normal violin?

I heard a concert played on a crystal violin last Christmas so this is my impression. It has a clear sound but there is less timbre than a wood instrument. It is very beautiful but the tones are not as warm as the traditional violin. I think of it as a new instrument based on an old one. It was the first instrument that I have heard in concert that the audience collectively gasped when the first note was drawn. It has a startlingly different and beautiful sound. There were CD's of this instrument for sale in Willamsburg, Va where I heard it.

Where can you find a picture of the first violin ever made?

The first violin made was by Andrea Amati in 1555. There are a few violins of his from that year that would be the actual first violin. A search of "violin Amati 1555" would give you pictures of these instruments.Interestingly, the first instrument in the violin family was not the violin. It was the viola!

What does the leader of the violin do?

I'm assuming that you mean the concertmaster, or the person in the first chair of the first violin section in an orchestra. The concertmaster is the most violinist in the orchestra and leads the section. He makes decisions about bowings, fingerings, and playing style for the 1st violins. In a concert, the concertmaster emerges just before the concert begins and takes a bow on behalf of the orchestra. He also leads the orchestra in turning and is responsible for playing solo sections in orchestral music.

Is a violin played solo?

Playing only one violin from the violin section is what's meant by 'violin solo'. Other instruments may or may not be played. Singers may or may not sing. But the one violin that's played is the violin of the 'first desk man', who also may be called 'concert master'. The two terms apply whether the individual be female or male.

First violin compared to second violin?

The first violin and second violin are the same instruments. In an ensemble (orchestra, symphony, ect.) the first violin plays the higher part and the melody, while the second violin plays the lower part or the harmony. There is sometimes also a third violin, which plays the lower part along with the second violin, and this can go on and on. (4th, 5th, 6th) One common misconception is that the first violin plays the harder part, but this is not always true. The violins playing the harmony might have a harder time supporting the first violins.

What does violin one mean?

Probably the first violin section or the first violin in an ensemble. Different pieces of music require different numbers of violin parts, all playing different notes.
