The Old Guitarist is presently located at the Art Institute on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. It has been there for my whole life, 1947-2009 (at the least). The oils used underneath the final painting are bleeding through and I can tell a big difference in the years I've been looking at it, 1953-2009. The blues are much lighter than I first remember.
In "The Old Guitarist," Pablo Picasso predominantly used a blue color scheme, characteristic of his Blue Period. The painting features various shades of blue and blue-green, creating a somber and melancholic atmosphere that reflects themes of poverty and despair. This monochromatic palette enhances the emotional depth of the subject, emphasizing the loneliness and struggle of the old guitarist.

Do you mean The Old Guitarist by Picasso? It is oil on panel.
Various reasons
The color blue in Picasso's painting "The Old Guitarist" symbolizes sadness, loneliness, and despair. It reflects the emotional state of the figure in the painting, conveying a sense of melancholy and suffering.
The Old Guitarist is a painting from Picasso's "blue period." A painting from this period, Boy with Pipe, sold at an auction in 2004 for more than $100 million. It is assumed Old Guitarist is worth that or more. That said, it is unlikely this painting will ever be up for sale. It is currently on display at the Art Institute of Chicago.
