The fan relay is actually behind the passenger side headlight, in front of the fuse box. You need to remove the headlight in order to get to the relay. This just happened to my 99 Jeep grand Cherokee yesturday lol.

∙ 8y agoDepending on the car....but....for example on a 1990 Mercury Topaz, it is located just to the left of the battery (as you are looking down at it) and tucked up against the radiator area....just look between the battery and the radiator and you should see it in there....it is a pain to find, a friend of mine had to take it to a mechanic to have it pointed out. Once she found it it was easy to pull, but not so easy to find the part (everyone was out of stock or didn't carry it)....best bet is the dealership for that thing.
There is usually a relay this is built into the fan itself. I do not believe you can replace that unless you replace the fan.

The 1990 Jeep Cherokee electric fan relay switch is located on the firewall in the engine compartment. The fan relay switch will be on the passenger side of the firewall.
jump power from the battery to the fan directly to see if the fan operates. if not, replace fan. interchange another relay with the fan relay to check the relay. there are usually the exact same relay located in the engine bay.

That is a fan relay error. Recommend replacing the relay, these jeeps are notorious for burning them up.
