I have a 1988 Cherokee and I had to replace the crank sensor a few weeks ago. It's not the easiest thing to get too. One end fastens to a wire toward the back of the motor on the driver's side. It's pretty much in plain sight and easy to get to. It looks kind of like an alternator wire. The other end has a plate that bolts onto the top of the transmission on the driver's side. It's extremely hard to get to because it's in between the transmission and the fender well. When I changed mine, I got to one bolt from under the hood, not very easily I might add, but I had to crawl up in under it and almost break my arm to even touch the other bolt. Good luck! ;)

Where is the MAP sensor on a 1985 Jeep Cherokee?

There is not a map sensor on an 85. They did not show up till 86 with the 2.5 fuel injected engine.

Is there overdrive on the Jeep Cherokee automatic transmission?

There was several transmissions offered. It depends on what motor and trans you have. the 2.8 v6 and 2.5 i 4 came with a 3 speed torqueflight. in the mid 90s the switched to a 30rh 3 speed for the i4 (2.5) None of these had overdrive. there was an option for an AW4 transmission made by aisin, that had an overdrive. This was available about 86 or 87 till the discontinuation of the Cherokee in 2001.

Can a 1988 Jeep Cherokee straight 6 5 speed transmission fit in a '86 Jeep Cherokee straight 6?

If they are manual then the '88 car would have been supplied with a Peugeot BA10/5 the '86 car a Borg-Warner T5 to be honest I'm not sure if these are interchangeable but I would have thought so since there were no major design changes as far as I know between the '86 cars and the '88 cars If the '86 car is an auto 'box then it would have been supplied with the 3 speed Chrysler A904 I think? I couldn't tell you if the 5 speed manual would fit in the '86 if the '86 is an auto However I think that manual for manual should be interchangeable By the way, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right regards Iain Thornton

Who invented a written language for the Cherokees?

Sequoyah wanted his people to remain free he thought that if his people could communicate with each other by reading and writing, then they could keep their independence of the white people because the Cherokees had no written language.

How to get an 86 Jeep Cherokee steering wheel unstuck from the Locked position?

Try putting on the emergency brake & turning the wheels one way while turning the key. If that dont work try turning the wheels the other way..if your parked on a steep hill you might even have to put a brick in front of the tires and let it roll a bit to remove some pressure from the wheels............hope it works
