If they are manual then the '88 car would have been supplied with a Peugeot BA10/5
the '86 car a Borg-Warner T5
to be honest I'm not sure if these are interchangeable but I would have thought so since there were no major design changes as far as I know between the '86 cars and the '88 cars
If the '86 car is an auto 'box then it would have been supplied with the 3 speed Chrysler A904 I think?
I couldn't tell you if the 5 speed manual would fit in the '86 if the '86 is an auto
However I think that manual for manual should be interchangeable
By the way, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right

I am not sure but i would be pretty sure that it wouldnt. I would see no reason to do that connection though as you will be losing power because the gearing ratio on that tranny is made for the 304 v-8 that came with the cj-7. the 4.0 wont push those gears as well as it does the tranny that was made for it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ the 4.0, 258(4.2), 304, 360 and 401 amc/Jeep motors all share the same bellhousing pattern. with modern fuel injection the 4.0 (imo) as much power as a stock 304 v8. the gearing may be a little tall but I think it would be liveable Mike
call auto salvage yard they have the interchange books yes if they both have the same transmissions the rule of thumb is 1984-1994 are the same and 1995-2001 are the same
It's not a bolt-in, but you can buy adapters for anything.
Probably, but it will most likely require an adapter plate for the bellhousing.
absolutley. should slide right in.
no

The transmission oil line from a 1991 model of a Jeep Cherokee will fit a 1988 model of a Jeep Cherokee because the transmission oil line fits all Cherokee models that were made between 1987 and 1996.

No, the rear section is different.
It is a gear that plugs into the transmission. There is a cable coming from the firewall that goes to the transmission.

There are 4 different options for the type of transmission that came in a 1988 K5 Blazer. They are the 4 speed SM465 manual, the 3 speed TH350 automatic, the 3 speed TH400 automatic and the 4 speed 700R4 automatic.
the transfer case is bolted directly to the back of the trans, so no, not in the traditional sense.
