Israel Kamakawiwo'ole [May 20, 1959-June 26, 1997] performed a medley of 'Over the Rainbow' and 'What a Wonderful World' for the movie 'Finding Forrester'. The Hawai'ian musician was known for his vocal skills and his mastery of the Ukulele. The medley first was featured on his 'Facing Future' album of 1993.

Kamakawiwo'ole was only 38 years old at the time of his death. His coffin lay in state at Hawaii's Capitol building in Honolulu. Kamakawiwo'ole's funeral was held on July 10, 1997. Over 10,000 people were in attendance. The state flag was flown at half mast, in honor of the musician and singer-songwriter.

Such honor had been shown only two times previously in Hawaii's history. The first time occurred in the aftermath of the death of John Anthony Burns [March 30, 1909-April 5, 1975], who was the state's second governor. The second occurred with the news of the death of Spark Masayuki Matsunaga [October 8, 1916-April 15, 1990], United States Senator from Hawaii.
