As in for Finnish Death Metal, there were quite a bunch of bands. Convulse, Necropsy, Demilich, Demigod, Adramelech, Belial, Amorphis and Sentenced to name some of them. Alot of these bands started out in 1988 and/or early 1990s. So there isn't just one.

Supposedly Florida's Morbid Angel is considered in the founding and development in death metal.
I have no clue why the band Death(also from Florida) was answered for being the answer. Death was formed and influenced after from bands like Morbid Angel and the band Possessed.
