Dizzy wasn't looking and sat on his Trumpet, and dizzy being dizzy, he started blowing into it and found out it made a cooler, unique sound.
I don't believe that if he sat on his trumpet it would of hurt so that's wrong i don't know how his trumpet got that way but i know that that's not it
Actually, his friends were at a gig one night and some of them were drunk. They told jokes to the audience until one of his drunk friends pushed somebody into Dizzy's trumpet. He was furious until he played it

Well Actually I read in an autobiography of him that in 1953 someone accidentally fell on it which caused it to bend. He liked the way it sounded when he played the bent trumpet so he left it like that.

∙ 11y agoHe claimed that after an accident where somebody tripped over his trumpet at a gig it got bent that way. He used it to play and liked the sound so much he had a trumpet purposely bent like it.
In reality, he probably had it bent like that as a trademark to make him more memorable.
