Cause it sounded like a great title at the time.

Two factors:

1. Paul had just returned from a visit to San Francisco where many West Coast bands had long names, something along the lines of, "Uncle Moe's First Rate Dog and Pony Show". That influenced the title.

2. Paul thought that by creating alter-egos for The Beatles, it would give them the freedom to experiment with different styles. This is very similar to Garth Brooks creating the "Chris Gaines" persona, allowing him to do songs other than country songs. MP
