you can soak them in water, or you may add a very small amount of dish soap to soften the water (makes it easier to dry and leaves fewer water marks). hang them to dry and use a hair dryer to make sure you dont have any water dropplet marks left on film from drying.

*************

I think you'd be better off using a film wetting agent, which is made specifically for the job instead of soap (which may have undesirable chemicals such as scent or emulsifying agents). GENTLY using a film squeegee as I'm not sure when manufacturers starting using scratch resistant coatings. Hang to dry using real film hanging clips at the bottom of the strip as well (to prevent curling) or spring-loaded clothes pins, but don't put them on the image area! I would also not use a hair dryer as you are liable to blow dust around, or heaven forbid, blow contaminants right from the dryer onto the film. If the edge of the negative does not have "Safety Film" printed on it, it is likely so old that it is made from nitrocellulose. Keep in mind that it is reportedly possible for this type of film to suffer from spontaneous combustion, but I don't know how likely that is. May be worth reading up on it if it might be nitrocellulose.

Micron ************ I would seek professional assistance for this task. You might contact a well known Photography source such as b&h photo/video for assistance. If the film is that old and contains sentimental photos such as family photos, I would talk to the pros.

Did Elvis receive bad press?

When he first came along, yes. His music and stage presence disturbed nearly as many older people as it excited young ones. Sermons were preached about how he would corrupt American morals, and editorials printed about how he would soften things up for a Communist takeover of the country. Ed Sullivan saw enough public demand to want him on his show, but was concerned enough about "Elvis the Pelvis" that the TV cameras showed him performing only from the waist up. Many of the people who actually met Elvis were surprised to discover that rather than being a sex-crazed hoodlum, he turned out to be a polite, soft-spoken Southern gentleman who was devoted to his mother.

What do the petals at the bottom of the piano do?

A piano usually has 2 or 3 pedals, if it has two pedals, the one on the right prolongs the note and you'll still be able to hear the note even if you aren't pressing the note down. The one on the left is a soft pedal or a damper pedal. This softens the note or dampens it. If the piano has 3 pedals, the rightermost one prolongs the note and the ones in the middle and on the left dampen/soften the note. :)
