I have talked to many handy men who claim that they don't shut off the power to do simple task like changing an outlet. Foolish, to change an outlet you have to grab it with one hand and use a screw driver with the other hand. If you are sweating and your skin is soaked and you are grounded on the ground your hand slips across the nuetral and hot side at the same time, you're dead, period. What kills you is the amps. It will stop your heart. So shut the power off and then test it to make sure. Always test from the ground to the hot. Never test from nuetral to hot, if the nuetral line is broken you won't get a reading, but the hot is still hot and the ground is still good, you grab the wires thinking there is not juice, you're dead. 110 is a killer.

I THINK PEOPLE ARE OVER REACTING

Although 110v can kill... From experience I don't think it's as easy as the people posting on here think. Ive been shocked more times than I can count. THE WORST... In high school we made model rockets ignited by a 12 volt launch pack. My teacher used a 110 volt cord and outlet to plug the launcher into the 12 volt battery pack.

WELL... while I was holding both wires, one in each hand, this dumb b#$&% plugged it into a 110v wall outlet and pushed the button. Needless to say 20 years later I still remember the intensity. That was pretty direct through the heart and I didn't die.

WATER is a different story. When I was 5 years old 2 girls from the area about my same age where killed when a hair dryer fell in the bath tub. I still get a sick feeling remembering their pictures on the front page of the paper. So I guess in any instance be careful and always take the safe route.

How will a 3 phase panel give you 110 volts and 220 volts?

A three phase panel will not give you 110 and 220 volts. A three phase four wire panel will, but not at these voltages. The nearest voltages will be 120 and 208 volts. The 120 volt is the wye voltage of 208 volts. 208/1.73 = 120 volts. A single phase three wire panel will give you 110 and 220 volts.
