The largest ethnic group within those are the Japanese. Hawaiians (a Polynesian people, also known as Native Hawaiians) were historically the biggest until American annexation, after this people of Eurasian, American (Amerindian) and African descent began migrating to Hawaii.

Among East Asians, the largest groups are Japanese, then Chinese and Koreans.

Among Southeast Asians, the largest group are the Filipinos. They are the third-largest group over-all.

As with the United States as a whole, the largest European peoples are first Germans, then Irish, then English. Other groups with a presence in Hawaii are the Portuguese, Italians, French and Scots. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans, "Hispanic" groups, are also largely of European (as well as Amerindian).

Among those of African descent, the largest group are African-Americans (descendants of West African slaves who lived in the United States for hundreds of years).

Most Native Americans in Hawaii are originally from or have ancestry in Hispanic countries. Most Mexicans are of mixed Native American and European ancestry (Puerto Rico, on the other hand, is more like the United States, Europeans are a clear majority), so it stands to reason that at least some Mexican-Americans in Hawai'i are as well.

Most Polynesians in Hawaii are Hawaiian, but there are some other Polynesian groups such as Samoans as well.
